Swedish Style in Tokyo 2004

This year 2004 again, " Swedish Style in Tokyo" has attracted many visitors from all over the world and offered more than 30 events focused on art and design. At "Swedish Style in Tokyo2004", Style-pd hosted four events, " Pyra" , " ...without boarders" , " Young Creators Day" , and " Stockholm Night Cafe 2004" .

October 7th- 16th "Pyra", at La Une, Omotesando

"Pyra", which attracted lots of attention at the Stockholm furniture fair in 2003 and 2004, has arrived in Tokyo for the first time. Style-pd has started working as an agent for "Pyra" in the Japanese market.

The reception party started at La Une in Omotesaindo on October 7th. Despite the heavy rain, many people attended the opening ceremony. Mr. Ivar Bjorkman, who is the founder of Pyra and also the rector of Konstfack, introduced the Pyra products and explained the concept behind the products exhibited there.

Among the products shown, "Ving" designed by Per Sundstedt probably got the most attention. It is a rocking chair and can support a person who weighs about 100kg. This chair has received "the furniture of the year" award in Sweden. "Ving" was chosen to be part of "We Love Chairs" exhibition organized by "Living Design Center" at "Ozone" in Shinjuku. (the exhibition was held between October 21st-November 23rd)

October 7th-10th "...without borders", at Hotel Claska, Meguro

The T-shirt exhibition "...without borders" that Style-pd organized at Konstfack, Stockholm during Tokyo Style moved to Tokyo for "Swedish Style"!

This T-shirt exhibition was held at Hotel Claska, which was chosen to be the Best Design Hotel in the world by the January 2005 issue of Wallpaper magazine.

The T-shirt exhibition was combined with the visual installation by Haruko Masuda, with the textile exhibition by In Out, with the exhibition by NC-Mobler, a Swedish furniture company, and with the exhibition by Swedes, a group of young designers from Stockholm. The reception party was held on the 7th and more than 200 visitors enjoyed the combination of the colors and the ideas.

October 9th "Young Creators Day", at the Swedish Embassy, Roppongi

Style-pd hosted "Young Creators Day" again this year with the collaboration of the Swedish Embassy. Although the typhoon hit Tokyo on the 9th, the event was held as planned. Surprisingly, many people showed up in the storm.

The exhibition was more focused on young Swedish designers as it was in 2003. This year, the products by Hedda Bjerkeli, Titti Bjerner, Christina Wemming, Nybro Crystal were exhibited in the main hall of the embassy.

Also, the design seminar was held at 14:00. After Ivar Bjorkman, rector of Konstfack, gave a speech,

Titti Bjerner and Hedda Bjerkeli, students at Konstfack, explained the concept behind their design.

At 18:00, Anna Johnsson, a Swedish pop singer, who is known as a singer for the soundtrack "Spiderman" and just made a debut from Sony Music, gave a performance. This live show was broadcasted by TOKYO FM

Right after the show, Jakob Lusensky and Andreas Agdestein from DNM records started playing records as DJs. They played the tracks from their compilation album "Nordic Lounge" and also some tracks from "Move On", a new album by Hird, produced by DNM.

October 15th "Stockholm Night Cafe2004", at Soft, Shibuya

Style-pd's closing party was held at Soft, Shibuya, as "Stockholm Night Cafe 2004".

This year, products that Style-pd are promoting were sold at the club. The DJs this year were Jakob Lusensky and Andreas Agdestein, who also played at the embassy.

This was more like a secret party for Jakob and Andreas, who had played only at large venues such as Orbient and La Fabrique. They have played from 21:00 to 4:00 continuously! Hird and Shuya Okino from Kyoto Jazz Massive were seen during the party as well.
